Born in Paris, Tania Concko spent her childhood in the Congo before continuing her studies in France. She graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles (1982) and completed her studies with a degree in urban planning at the Paris-Villemin school (1986) - now Paris-Val-de-Seine.
This path, peppered with encounters with rich and contrasting personalities (Henri Bresler, Philippe Panerai, Bernard Huet), was the prelude to other links that she would forge, in the following years, with architects whose approach and commitment took on very different forms. Thus, she developed her knowledge with Jean Nouvel, then later in 1998, she joined, for about ten years, the "Quality Team" of Almere, as one of five consultants selected to work alongside Rem Koolhaas on the implementation of his New City Centre Masterplan, in a unique and innovative experience.
At the end of 1991, she won the Europan competition, which led to the construction of the Zaanstad district in the Netherlands. In 1992 she founded her first agency with Pierre Gautier, before creating the agency TCAU (Tania Concko Architects Urbanists) in 1997 in Amsterdam.
Encounters and projects multiplied over the years, while a personal approach was quickly established which, in very diverse contexts, focused on a fine, "critical" and non-priori apprehension of all scales of contemporary urban reality. This attitude will flourish within TCAU and will form its methodology.
Tania regularly participates in urban workshops, symposiums or conferences, events to which she is invited in Europe but also in Sao Paulo, Ottawa, Toronto, Dakar, Casablanca...
She has been entrusted with numerous consultancy missions on urban and territorial development issues for municipalities such as Begles (France), Leeuwarden and Almere (Netherlands), Toronto and Ottawa (Canada).
She has taught at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Malaquais, the Academy van Bouwkunst in Amsterdam and the Technical University of Delft (TU Delft). She has also been a visiting professor at the Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture (ESA) in Paris, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles (ENSAV), and the Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago de Chile.
"These experiences, in their diversity, contribute to nourish her own personality, plural and curious about others, without however leading her to scatter or to a half-hearted eclecticism. Tania Concko is unique in that her vision and her talent are shaped and honed by the constancy of a personal quest open to the world, but to which all obedience remains alien.”
